Until the federal government recognizes the rampant racism and segregation within its borders, and acts upon said recognition, nothing will change in creating an equitable and justice driven environment.

Populism.

How can we maintain democracy when populism allows authoritarianism to knock at our door? How are the manifestations of populism different to those of the past? Is social media a tool or a new theoretical basis on understanding the spread of populism? How does social affect the temporality and spatiality of populism in the world?

Migration.

Instead of continuously talking in circles about all of the differing actors, practices, discourses, technologies, bodies, affects, and trajectories, the EU must first decide if they value migrants lives or if they value ‘security’ at their borders.

Coloniality of Language.

If we are able to compare and relate our experiences with those of Central and Eastern Europe, without diminishing their lived reality or attempting to exert dominance, we will be able to create an interdependency and oppositional consciousness between our cultures that devalues language and proliferates the importance of meaning over labels.

 

Urban Uprisings.

Radical and extremist populist political groups have directly and innately changed the urban fabric in Athens, transforming it from a society that had common space but ‘no cognitive or physical space’ to transform it, into an active political center inventing new cognitive spaces to include what they label as “the people”, or according to the EU, “the other”.
